Generosity

My students are wonderful. I'm currently teaching summer school here at CHS, and I told my kids (the "bad" kids that failed during the regular school year) that they could donate supplies for me to take to my students in Africa if they wanted to. In the last three days, they've brought in TONS of stuff --backpacks, paper, pencils, socks, soap, deoderant, clothes, and even a nice new pair of shoes from a kid who's own shoes were nearly worn through. It just goes to show that altruism and empathy are ageless. The kids here feel connected to their peers in poverty around the world, and I feel so lucky to give them the opportunity to reach out.

ps-Don't think they're perfect angels, however. That same kid that donated those nice shoes got in trouble not five seconds after for calling a kid an MFer. Punks.
